What you're seeing on the TV series is outtakes of his "work" over 13 years. There is a full length movie. At the end of the movie, you see family talking about him and his inability to function in the world.
The TV show has different stuff from the movie. In the extra features and at the end, the family discusses how they got the film footage of him and the girl being eaten by the bear. It's there on film. they claim to have destroyed it so it does not get out and made public.
What I'd like to know is who funded this nut-job's "work".
