I'm with Cracker on this one. When my kids were in 5th grade, I chaired fund raising for a 5 day camp the kids were to attend at the end of the year. The cost per kid was roughly $290 at the beginning of the year. By raising around $8,000, we were able to get the cost down to roughly $260 per kid and kids had an opportunity to further reduce their own cost (by selling car wash coupons etc.). One kid sold so many coupons his cost was $5.00.
Anyway, I communicated from the very beginning and regularly about the costs. I offered people the opportunity to set aside money monthly etc.
When it came time to pay for the trip, I was freaking SHOCKED by the number of families that not only asked for "scholarships", they asked for FULL scholarships. They couldn't contribute a fucking dime...? I was pissed but besides bitch about it, there was nothing I could do.
Who paid for the "scholarships"? The PTA. So any money I had contributed during the year went to pay for those lazy fucks (and yes, if you can't contribute a dime, you're a lazy fuck).
If it hasn't already gone by the wayside, I'm pretty sure that trip will soon be a thing of the past.
