That's not true. It depends on how much money you make and how many deductions you have. The only time married people pay more taxes is if both partners make about the same income. Married people pay less if one partner makes more than the other.
Married couples pay a lower percentage of taxes on a greater amount of money than a single person would if they made the same amount (cutoff amounts lower for single people).
About half of all filers DON'T pay, I am assuming some of them are married.
