If you can relate, think of the difference between reading Tolkien and watching the movies (as great as they were).
That analogy doesn't work for me. I couldn't understand the trilogy in writing, got lost in all his words. The story never made much sense to me until the movies came out.
Really sorry to hear that. One of my favorite read again and again books/series.
Perhaps you might try reading The Hobbit just before the movie comes out?
