Australian Meat Pie
This is The Australian Traditional Meat Pie! You can make 1 big one or more
little ones from this recipe!
INGREDIENTS
1 onion, chopped
1 1⁄2 lbs ground beef or mixture of beef, pork, veal
1 cup water or 1 can vegetable or beef broth or 2 beef or vegetabole
bouillon cubes
1⁄4 cup ketchup
1 to 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
salt and pepper to taste
1⁄2 teaspoon oregano
1 pinch nutmeg
3 tablespoons plain flour
2 puff pastry sheets OR a top and bottom pie crust
DIRECTIONS
1. Pre-heat oven at 220'C degrees.
2. Brown meat and onion.
3. Add 3⁄4 of the water, stock cubes, sauces and seasonings.
4. Boil and cover for 15 minutes.
5. Blend flour with the rest of the water till it becomes a smooth paste and
add slowly to the meat mix.
6. Let cool.
7. Grease a pie dish and line with pastry.
8. Add the mixture and put the pastry top on, milking or egging the edges
and then pressing down with a fork.
9. Rim edges and glaze with milk or an egg.
10. Bake in a very hot oven 425 for 15 mins and then at 180'C for 25 mins,
or until golden brown.
11. Serve with vegies, fries, or salad.
I make a chicken pot pie using the pre-made pie crusts. Easy. This sounds like a nice change. If I get my ass to the store today, I think I'll make it tonight.
I think I'll try it as is but I bet you could add a cup or two of a defrosted peas/carrots/corn mix. Always trying to get my kids to eat their veggies.
