While I don't think DeeDee has the capacity to lie effectively on the stand, she did indeed lie to Crump and Trayvon's parents about being 16 instead of 18 (to avoid, as a minor, public disclosure - she admitted when West asked her) and she lied to Trayvon's mom when she said that she didn't go to the funeral because she was in the hospital. DeeDee says she lied about that that because she didn't want to say that she didn't want to see the dead body. DeeDee testified, "you gotta understand how it feels to be the last person to talk to him and he's dead" (para).
When DeeDee was interviewed by phone about her last conversation with Trayvon, she thought it was just going to be heard and recorded by Attorney Crump and Trayvon's parents. She did not know that it would be broadcast on ABC.
So far, DeeDee's turning out to be a much better witness for the prosecution (especially under cross) than I had imagined from reading her interview transcripts.
