Craigslist Killers Quantified
Law Street just published the first report on murders connected to Craigslist-driven interactions.
There have been a lot of them; more than I'd thought.
Since Philip Markoff was labeled the first "Craigslist Killer" back in 2009:
- 58 murderers and 45 murder victims have been officially connected to Craigslist postings through June 2014 (some of the murders involved multiple perpetrators against a single victim).
- 22 Craigslist murder cases are still pending.
- The oldest pending case dates to 2012, and eight are from 2014, indications that the killings continue.
Reading through the slide show recap of Craigslist killings, most of the killers lured their victims with ads to sell an iPhone, a vehicle, or "companionship" with the actual intent to rob and/or kill.
