I was just reading about a 16 yr. old girl killed while walking to her bus, another teen passed the stopped school bus which had its lights flashing indicating it was stopped and picking up a kid. At the end of the story it said the DA's office will determine if charges are warranted? Does anyone know why that would even be a question?

I don't know how many times I've stopped at a crosswalk for a pedestrian only to see the car on the left of me fly on through. Fortunately the pedestrians usually stop to make sure ALL the traffic is stopping and don't assume that just because one car did, all the others will follow (even if they have the right of way).

I wonder if the school bus stopped at a crosswalk. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I was pretty surprised to see a bus pull over the other day, flash its lights and a bunch of older students dart across the street (a very busy street) without a crosswalk. This is an exaggeration of course but you wouldn't expect a bus to pull over to the side of the freeway, flash its lights and expect a bunch of people to randomly spill out on to the road. At least I wouldn't.
