Three North Carolina Shark Attacks
A boy, 16, and girl, 12, whose limbs were torn off in North Carolina shark attacks were only in waist-deep water this weekend.
- The 12-year-old girl lost her arm at the elbow and suffered injuries to her leg on Oak Island on Sunday afternoon.
-Ninety minutes later, the 16-year-old boy lost his left arm below the shoulder less than two miles away.
-The grisly attacks come just days after another girl, 13, was bitten in nearby Ocean Isle Beach; she escaped with cuts to her foot but photos show how huge chunks were bitten out of her bodyboard.
The beaches were not closed between the two attacks but officials told people to get out of the water after the second incident; they are open again today.
Oak Island Town Manager Tim Holloman advised people to be a 'little more beach orientated' on Monday and said a helicopter was going up and down the coast to patrol. He described the attack as 'highly unusual'. He said: 'Oak Island is still a safe place; we're monitoring the situation.'
Witness Brenda Bouser reported, 'It was so much like a scene from Jaws.'

I think I'd keep my kids out of the water there for the time being.
