Yeah, it breaks my heart when people fuck up animals like that, and it happens all too often. He's very lucky to have spent the majority of his life with caring people like you.
When I was doing dog training, some folks called me in to work with their rottie pups. As I was getting ready to leave, the folks put the two pups in the 'laundry room' and started tossing them raw chicken. I was aghast. I asked what they were doing and they said "Raw meat makes them mean"..... fucking idiots. Of course, I educated them on that subject, as well as the dangers of feeding chicken bones to their dogs. I wasn't invited back. Poor dogs.
