I heard from a couple of different sources that he bought a thermal rifle scope 2 weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything about buying guns.
It's being said that he started acting erratically during reserve training over the summer. He threatened to shoot other reservists while training at the saco facility. Police were called, and brought him to a hospital, where he received 'mental health treatment ' for 2 weeks, then released back into the world.
Maine does not have red flag laws, (red flag laws allow the automatic confiscation of weapons of an at risk individual) Maine did pass a type of yellow flag law 4 years ago, but basically all that law does is allow authorities to keep an eye on you.
To complicate matters further, rifle season starts today for both New Hampshire and Maine, and it's not uncommon to see a guy dressed in orange, walking down the street with a gun slung over his shoulder. I can't imagine the number of 911 calls that are going to happen, because of hunters this weekend.
