I think it's long past time for the US to re-examine it's Cuba policy in today's terms, too.
The political reaction to Obama's announcement has been mostly dependent on party lines; the Democrats generally embrace the change in stance, while the Republicans generally denounce it (at least partially), based on what I've read.
Rand Paul, Libertarian/Republican (that's how I see him anyway), is an exception. He publicly agreed with Obama's move towards normalizing relations for the sake of mutually-beneficial trade and economic gain. Paul acknowledges that the 5 decade's embargo hasn't accomplished much of anything.
It'll be interesting to see how the change affects immigration in the future.
