TAMIR RICE, 12 -- KILLED BY CLEVELAND POLICE
One time, I saw a guy forget his bag at the airport. I picked it up and walked it over to him, and he said, "OMG, I can't believe I left that! Thank you so much." He then took his bag and boarded his flight. Boring right? I wasn't sure he forgot it, he could have left it there on purpose as a bomb. But I didn't call 911 and report a bomb left in the terminal, because I know that if I do call that in, they will treat it as a bomb. Me saying 10 times on the phone that I think it's not a bomb, but it might be a bomb, will not make airport security and LE treat it any less as a bomb. Jimbob is not going to come pick it up, shake it, and say, "It okay everyone, it ain't tickin, it ain't no bomb! I knew it weren't be no bomb cause the call guy said he thought somebody just left it."

Because the moral of the story is that some guy called the cops because he was afraid for people at the park. If he was positive it was a kid with a toy, he doesn't make the call. He thought it was a dude with a gun. As far as the response goes, it's usually safer to treat a possible threat as a threat. The driver put them in a bad position and Tamir put himself in danger, twice. All of that has nothing to do with racially motivated murdering cops as some would tell the story.
