The bolded statement by the mom stuck out to me too, Maggot.
If the parents suspected a stranger abduction, the stranger obviously couldn't be expected to know anything about the parents and hurting the parents wouldn't be the goal of the abductor.
It might not mean anything. But it makes me wonder a little if the mom suspects somebody other than a complete stranger, or if the parents aren't being completely honest and are looking to convince people that they're victims.
