This is another very weird and sad story.
Lakeisha Holloway was not drunk when she mowed down pedestrians on the Las Vegas strip. However, officers think she might have been on a stimulant (blood tests pending).

Three years ago, ^ Holloway appeared in a promotional video after accepting a role model award from the Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center for turning her life around. She'd been kicked out of the house by her alcoholic mother in 9th grade, was homeless and was failing out of school. But, she worked with the Center, did well in school, got $17,000 in college scholarships, was the first in her family to graduate from high school, and got a job with the Federal Forestry department.
Police believe she was in Las Vegas with her daughter for about a week, living out of her car and being kicked out of various parking lots. She reportedly made statements that go towards motive (she accelerated twice after hitting the first person) but police are not sharing those statements at this time. She's scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning.
The 3-year-old is in police custody, but may be turned over to foster care this week since the father has not come to get her.

Police identified the fatal victim as Buckeye, Arizona wife and mother of three, 34-year-old Jessica Valenzuela (pictured above). RIP.
