Trump said today that his Executive Order to restrict travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. is about keeping “bad people” out. Trump himself referred to it as a “ban” in a tweet Tuesday defending the decision not to provide advance notice to travelers.
Trump was correct in referring to the Executive Order as a travel ban or a ban on entry into the U.S. for millions of people from 7 different countries. That, by definition, is exactly what it is.
Why members of his staff and some of his supporters are trying to redefine a word really is perplexing. If you're familiar with the terms of the Executive Order and you know what the word 'ban' means, there's nothing to debate.
