Trump is always employing a reality show strategy, in my observation.
It works with the people in his base who see themselves as consummate victims, the always-aggrieved who care way less about facts and the good of the whole than they do about belonging to a side and perceiving that they’re sticking it to the other side.
In the show, Trump’s the aggrieved hero/victim of the establishment, the libs, the Dems, the Justice Department, and on and on.
That’s why Trump remains so underwater in terms of job approval, despite a strong economy, in my opinion. Most people care about the real issues more than the drama dwelling.
But, as long as he retains his base in the key electoral college states, it won’t necessarily hurt Trump if he runs again in 2020, and I think he enjoys performing for a devoted audience more than anything else.
