Is there a quick way

to find birth certificates from the 1950's? Online I mean. I need a birth certificate and don't even know what state it was in. The few things I found want your credit card first. I thought maybe one of you fine folks would know something super easy, like enter the name into a site and it pops up. easy peasy.

Vitalchek.com is good for getting official records like that, but you'd need to know the state and county to get a birth certificate, I think.

Aside from ancestry.com or one of the other family tree sites, I don't know how you'd be able to get the place of birth in order to request the birth certificate.

If you have a social security number, maybe the Social Security Administration can help?

I don't know a social security number or place of birth. It's my son's birthday today and he was born on my dad's brother's birthday who died shortly after birth. I don't have any other living relatives from that side who would know either. I kept the certificate for years and I have know idea where it's at now, which is bugging the shit out of me. His name was Dean. My son kinda looks like a Dean.

It's going to be very difficult if you don't have some relevant information. Do you know the parents names? Do you know the month, day & year of the birth?

Back in the 50's and later churches kept baptism records if you know the town you could narrow it down by the churches in that town. My Mothers sister created a book that goes back to the early 1600's with every person that had her maiden name which was in the thousands in Canada. It's entirely in french but my name is in it because she used the church as a directory to get all the birth and death dates on everyone. It's 2" thick.

I know my grandparent's names and I know he was born Feb. 22 sometime in the late 40s early 50s. My dad was born in NJ so I'd check that first, but they moved around so much that I know of at least six different states they have lived in.

Good luck! Research can be fun. It's like a treasure hunt.

RE: Is there a quick way

Yeah I didn't want to spend a lot of time researching. I thought there must be some kind of easy way I don't know about, where I can find it like in 5 minutes lol.

But, when I get the time I was thinking about looking for my grandparents on my mom's side also. I never met them, my grandma died at 47 and the only thing I know about my grandfather was that he was abusive. I've never even seen a picture of him, as soon as my mom and her siblings were old enough to move out they never spoke to him again. They hated him, he was pure evil from what my mom and her sisters said.

It's going to take some detective work on your part because of the lack of pertinent information. Have fun with it. It's not a job so you have the luxury of devoting as little or as much time as you want. I would think it would be very rewarding when you put your puzzle together, a bit here, a bit there, and then you have a picture.

RE: Is there a quick way

Back that far you might find it in genealogy records. Try someplace like ancestry.com

Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.
