What should be done about the caravan of people coming to the U.S.
Legal Update -- Trump Asylum Measures Halted

A three judge panel in the Ninth Circuit of Appeals ruled 2-1 to halt two Trump policies on asylum at the Mexican border with Arizona and California.

They upheld a lower court injunction on policy to make asylum seekers wait in Mexico while their cases wind through U.S. immigration courts.

In addition, they  kept another major change on hold, one that automatically denies asylum to anyone who enters the U.S. illegally from Mexico.

The Trump Administration's 'Remain in Mexico' measure took effect in January 2019 and nearly 60,000 people have been sent back to wait for hearings.

Opponents say the 'Remain in Mexico' policy has exposed asylum seekers to extreme danger in violent Mexican border cities while they wait for U.S. court hearings.

The case is expected to be escalated to the U.S. Supreme Court.
