Ya know.....google is OK but it really never replaces a cool book. The internet does not really go into detail on many things. Generalization is rampant and nobody wants to do any copyright infringement with anything. Try getting a detailed picture of the parking brake assembly for a 1974 car and you will see. Even a Chiltons book sucks and there is nothing better than the right book to lay down like a towel on the table.
Anyways let me find that picalilly recipe. Its from the 1930's and works like a charm. I think in a local publication where the old bitties wrote it down. Maybe I will just scan it verses re-typing it.
I only like pickling the small cukes. usually only 2-3" long. The big ones are best in a vegetable pie. You can freeze those, and buy 10 crusts for 20.00 or make your own for like 7.00. The bigitch does it all the time.
