I don't know if Mom's involved, or not, but she clearly is a whack-job, & knew what all her son was involved in, therefore panicking over him maybe being robbed? She's a theif, he's a thief, so it's something she automatically thought about?
i actually do agree that she's a bit of a whack-job, and you couple this with her recently losing a son and to me it's a wonder that she can even get out of bed in the morning. if she currently even can.

The fake crying. The attention-seeking behavior. The weird over-reacting 911 calls. I'm suspicious of her odd behavior. I don't know if she was directly involved or not, but I believe she knows a lot more about what happened to her son than she is letting on.
