Have you ever wore gloves of any kind cloth or rubber and used tape?It isn't easy and can be frustrating.If they brought the tape with them why didn't they take it with them? These are questions I wonder about.

Good point about the gloves sticking to the tape. Maybe they were leather, I don't think leather gloves would be that much of a problem.

If they brought the tape with them and there were no prints on it, leaving it would keep it from being found in their car / house / or trash can around their house. It links them to the crime but keeps them from being linked in a way. I don't see two people showing up, pulling a gun on the couple and having one guy say to another one, "search around the house and try to find tape or rope strong enough to keep these two from escaping."

I think they left the tape behind for the same reasons they left the bags and knives, it didn't have anything on it to link them to the crime, so leave it.
