I don't know Maytee, so I can't comment on her being evil, but she strikes me as the type of parent that would do this (the bolded) to be liked by her son and his friends. Growing up in the area I knew a lot of parents that would do this and it would explain her guilty conscience as well as why she was so adamant that the cops get into that house. I'm thinking as a parent myself, I'd be really upset with the way she tried to be a friend instead of a parent. (at least that is the impression I get)
