I believe that he loved his mother and vise-versa. I'm not sure why some are so reluctant to believe that. We're all flawed. Dysfunctional families (which make up about 90% of US families) have affection for one another too.

I was only speaking from personal experience. No child wants to not love their parents. They'll try to make excuses for them, but deep down, know their parents aren't worth a damn, & try to stay clear of them, as much as they can, without hurting their feelings. Sorry for the OT, lol...
