Another thing I've noticed about Maytee...she seems to be in competition with the Straubs, whether it be to set up a fund because they set up a fund or because she's a good mom just like they were good parents, Lisa's past is just as bad as Johnny's past. I can't imagine her pain and what that can do to you but that's just an observation I've had...add that with the love she had for Johnny but knowing Johnny loved Lisa and chose to live with her over Maytee...I definitly can see her feeling like she had/has to comepte with Lisa/Straub's. AND..let's not forget if what's been said about her husband cheating, she's probably over the top with jealousy and feelings of competition.

I so agree with you here.

I think Johnny was distancing himself from Maytee. Others have used the word "embarrassed" and I believe that to my core.

Here was a chance for Johnny to make good. He was welcomed by a stable, respectable family and loved by a young woman who didn't talk or act like a gangster. She was edgy enough to like to party and to tolerate his past transgressions. He could envision a future far different from the environment of his youth, an upbringing he was most likely desperate to escape.

I think Maytee resented it fiercely. And I think Johnny's peers resented it, too.

I think you're probably right!

If Johnny was completely trying to escape his past and begin a better life, he wouldn't be hanging out with the social elite like Tiffany, have digital scales in his girlfriend's parent's house, and he sure wouldn't let Lisa around people like Tiffany.
I'm having a hard time describing what I mean.

I think there's a difference between distributing drugs among peers and running with that crowd versus thinking of yourself as a businessman and distributing. The only parallel I can give you is a situation my sister was in many, many years ago.

She had met a guy who had a modest house (at a relatively young age) and lots of disposable cash. Few people were allowed his phone number and even fewer were allowed at the house. She liked the lifestyle, realized the source of income pretty quickly, and chose to ignore it. They lived together for several years, socializing with a small circle of friends and living the high life. Until the FBI showed up.

I think Johnny was attempting to position himself as a more insulated dealer. Maybe he thought he would eventually ditch the lifestyle altogether once he'd made some bit of money (and the money is very, very hard to give up). Maybe he thought he could control it and was protected from direct associations with those on the streets. Either way, I think he envisioned a different life from that of his childhood and was probably severing ties with one social group in order to be accepted into another. That doesn't necessarily mean getting out of the drug business. Where Tiffany comes in is absolutely beyond me because I don't think she is the kind of person he would want around his girlfriend or in the house. Maybe that's where the gang relationships come in. I just don't know.
