To either of you - Do you think that DNA as a means of nailing perps has made investigators too reliant on technology to solve cases?
Also, don't a fair amount of murders go unsolved?
that's OK, i'm cynical too. after years of being a LEO.
yes many murders are unsolved, usually when there is no nexus between victim and killer. a national DNA database will help rectify that in the case of serial killers who are highly mobile.
and i don't think DNA has made investigators lazy about working a case. it's simply another tool and a damn accurate one. it's good for not only proving cases, but proving innocence.

unsolved murder numbers include all kinds of variables, from drive by shootings to unknown and unassociated assailant, (people who are killed by people with no ties to them), it's very tough to collect any type of evidence from some crime scenes.
cold,frost,rain,heat, so many things can degrade or erase evidence there will always be a percentage of homicides which go unsolved.
