Lol, true about local police; they are getting better though, thanks to the Chief weeding out the bad seeds. And, usually the police just patrol and respond; detectives do the sleuthing.
I think I'll weigh in here.
I was in Toledo this past weekend and spent a shift riding with a police crew, in the south end. It's true that we stopped at Speedway right after we left the Scott Park substation to buy some rations for the road; snacks, Red Bull, etc. The shift I accompanied them on was 8 pm until 4 am.
I can also tell you that other than one potty break, they (it was a 2 man crew) did not take any other breaks to eat, BS or otherwise kill time. Both cops were diligent the entire time about working and looking for scofflaws - potential stolen cars, observing cars parked outside known drug houses and/or bars and even the gas station at South and Spencer, making an arrest. These guys worked a solid 8 hour shift and were not hanging around Dunkin' Donuts.
Also, TPD is not the lead investigative agency on this case. They may have had a couple officers assist, but the brunt belongs to LCSD.
The only real new info I was able to glean about this case is that one of the people who was initially suspect (and who has been mentioned here numerous times) apparently passed his polygraph "with flying colors".
