I agree that the perps knew the victims and that Duct Tape and plastic bags are not typical tools of an armed robber. But what if you had a record that sent you back to jail for carrying a gun and a simple traffic stop could be enough to get you caught? Duct Tape would not arouse suspicion and could be enough to do get you what you want.
