Regarding the holes punched in the walk-in closet, could that possibly have been caused by extreme anger and frustration? I can see a person so enraged that they just punched the walls with their fist(s). Years ago I witnessed that happening.
Regarding the ransacking, perhaps that was a set-up to make it look like a robbery gone bad when, in fact, the main objective was to murder Lisa and Johnny.
IMO, if there had been a safe, it was probably taken by the intruders. More than likely, a residence would not have a large, bulky safe. Of course, all of this is purely speculation - grasping at straws here.
