but i think we should all look outside our narrow frame of reference to consider possibilities. it's not always the "obvious".

With this in mind, one of the Straub's neighbors would be my guess! They may of been familiar enough with the family to have heard they were expected to leave town, and they would of been someone that the victims could of recognized, as many of us suspect, is why this turned from robbery to homicide. It would also explain how the murderer could of arrived and left the scene, without need of a vehicle since they live nearby, and it might explain where the duct tape came from.
On another note, when Mr.Verbosky said there was an alarm, but it was deactivated, I do not think he meant just that night- I think that the alarm system was not in service at all, if it were in service, why would the Straub's want the kids to house sit while they were gone? Alarms are extremely effective for securing a home, and unless they had pets that needed tending to in their absence, there would be no need to have anyone come to your home. The only pet that has been mentioned thus far, is JC and LS's pet Gotti, which they brought to the home with them, unless I have that wrong.
