they are a good investigative tool depending on the polygrapher and how good he/she is. they help to rule out people from involvement. or not. BUT they are subject to many variables. from drugs to sociopathy.
often a criminal defense attny. will give the accused client a test, and if it is not deceptive, will shout it from the rooftops.
LE often does not give out results, and certainly not specifics such as questions "passed or failed".
in fact the criteria is really "deceptive" or not, rather than "passed/failed".
because of all the variables they are not admissible as evidence in court, as you mentioned.
while i would not go into specifics of any one person, Tiffany's poly was administered by law enforcement.
