THE BLADE/LORI KING Enlarge | Photo Reprints The Toledo man charged in the double slaying of a couple in a Springfield Township home last winter COULD face the death penalty, according to the indictment released by the Lucas County grand jury Friday.
Samuel Williams, 24, was charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of burglary. Attached to the charges were death penalty specifications, specifically that two or more victims were killed and that the deaths occurred during the commission of another felony.
Mr. Williams is charged in the Jan. 31 slaying of Lisa Straub, 20, who, with her boyfriend, Johnny Clarke, 21, was found dead in her parents’ Longacre Lane home. He remains in custody at the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $5 million bond.
Both were found bound with bags over their heads.
The families of both victims had asked that the case be presented as a death penalty case. Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division for the county prosecutor’s office, said that only the evidence of the crime was presented to the grand jury for consideration.
