Williams pleads not guilty to murders

TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Samuel Williams, accused of murdering John Clarke and Lisa Straub in a Springfield Township home Jan. 31, pleaded not guilty on all charges during a court appearance in Lucas Co. Common Pleas court.
The 24-year-old Toledo man is facing two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated burglary in connection to the crime. He was arrested Thursday and was arraigned on Friday.
Mr. Clarke and Ms. Straub were found dead in the basement of a Springfield Township home in the early morning hours of Jan. 31. The 20- and 21-year-old victims died of asphyxiation. Their hands were bound and plastic bags were taped over their heads.
Family members of Clarke said they are pushing for the death penalty if Williams is found guilty.
"I want this guy, our face to be the last face he sees when he's laying on that bed, getting injected and being put to death," said Maytee Vasquez-Clarke, mother of Mr. Clarke.
A trial date for Williams has been set for sometime in January.
