I was hoping BellaMia might pop on this thread to-night I am wondering since she is acquainted with Samuel Williams somewhat, maybe she also knows Starla. You can get married instantly now-a-days I guess and no blood test required but, both have to be present to apply for the license.

Our hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Please be advised that Fridays are normally very busy and there can be a lengthy wait. No appointments are taken. The Lucas County Probate Court Marriage License Office is located on the first floor of the Lucas County Court House, 700 Adams Street, Toledo, Ohio 43604. The cost of obtaining a marriage license is $50.00 payable in cash only.

The bride and groom must be present together in our office at the time the application is made for a marriage license. The legal age for obtaining a marriage license without parental consent is 18. Both the bride and groom must have a valid, Government Issued, picture ID, (only Driver's License, State ID card, Passport or Military ID will be accepted) and we ask that social security number be provided, but is not mandatory. In addition, any applicant under the age of 21 must present a certified birth certificate listing parent's names. If either applicant has been married previously, he or she must present a copy of the final Decree of Divorce, Dissolution or Annulment that has been signed by the Judge and filed for record with the Court. If the applicant is a widow or widower, a certified copy of the Death Certificate, listing applicant as surviving spouse, must be presented. You must be prepared to give information on all previous marriages, however you must provide proof of how your most recent marriage ended.

Ohio law provides that residents of Ohio apply for a marriage license in the county where one of the applicants resides in order to be married in the State of Ohio. Lucas County residents will need to provide proof of residency. Out of state residents may apply in Lucas County for a marriage license however, the marriage ceremony must also take place in Lucas County. There is no waiting period in Lucas County so the bride and groom may be married the same day they obtained their license. A marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date of issuance. An ordained or licensed minister of any religious society or congregation within this state who is licensed through the office of the Secretary of the State of Ohio, a judge of the county court, or a judge of a municipal court may solemnize marriages.

The cost of a marriage license is $50.00 CASH ONLY (We do not accept checks or credit cards). You will not need blood tests or witnesses to be married in Ohio. A marriage license will not be issued if either applicant is under the influence of intoxicating liquor or controlled substance.

If you are under age 18, you, and your parents or guardian, must reside in Lucas County to obtain a marriage license in Lucas County. You must have a certified birth certificate listing parent's names (we will not accept hospital records), a valid Government issued, picture ID (only Driver's License, State ID Card, Passport or Military ID will be accepted) and we ask that social security number be provided, but is not mandatory. In addition, you will need to provide a letter from a licensed minister or qualified counselor stating that you have completed marriage counseling. Your parents must be present to give consent when you apply for your marriage license. Your parents must have a valid Government issued, picture ID. In the case of divorced parents, the custodial parent must have proof of custody. If one parent is deceased, a copy of the death certificate must be provided. A female under the age of 16 or a male under the age of 18 must also have a Juvenile Court order granting consent to the marriage. If either party is hearing impaired and requires an interpreter, one will be provided by the Court, however you must make arrangements with the interpreter prior to obtaining your marriage license. Please call the Marriage License Office at (419)213-4361 to arrange for an interpreter for the hearing impaired.

If an applicant does not speak or understand English, he or she must have a translator when applying for a marriage license. The translator must be at least 18 years or age, cannot be related to either applicant and must have a valid Government issued, picture ID. In addition, translation of any foreign document must be provided. Translations must be on business letterhead from a professional translator. At the time of application we will need the original foreign document along with the translation. We suggest you contact the International Institute in Toledo, Ohio, at 419-241-9178 to assist in translations. For further information, call the Marriage License Bureau at 419-213-4361.

You can obtain your marriage license and be married on the same day. There are licensed ministers who, while not employed by the Court, are permitted to wait on the first floor of the building as a convenience for those needing their services. The ministers request a $20.00 donation to perform a marriage ceremony and are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. For those wanting a civil ceremony, Judges are available through the Toledo Municipal Court between the hours of 1:30 P.M. and 3:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. A Toledo Municipal Court Judge can perform the marriage after a marriage fee of $15.00 CASH is paid at the Clerk of Court's Office. The Toledo Municipal Court is located 1 block from the Lucas County Court House, at 555 North Erie Street, Toledo, Ohio 43624. If you have any questions regarding a Judge officiating at the marriage ceremony, please call 419-245-1949. If you have further questions regarding the marriage ceremony, call the Marriage License Bureau at 419-213-4361.

You can request a Certified Copy of the Marriage Record by mailing the name of the groom, the bride's name as it was before the marriage, and the date of the marriage to the Lucas County Probate Court, 700 Adams Street, Suite 200, Toledo, Ohio 43604. The cost is $2.00 per copy, payable by money order only (we will not accept personal checks). Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request and allow approximately 2 weeks for processing. If applying in person, cash is accepted and the certified copy will be issued while you wait. If you have questions, call the Marriage License Bureau at 419-213-4361.

Directions from Michigan are as follows:

Take I-75 south to the Washington Street Exit. Follow Washington Street until you get to Erie Street, you will turn left onto Erie Street. Washington Street and Erie Street are one way streets. Erie Street will take you right to the Lucas County Court House, which will be on the left side of Erie Street. The Lucas County Court House is bounded by Adams Street, Erie Street, Jackson Street and Michigan Street

10 of the most commonly asked questions on obtaining a marriage license

1) Do both parties have to be here together? Yes both applicants need to appear together

2) Is there a waiting period or can we be married the same day? No, there is no waiting period in Lucas County. Yes, you can be married the same day that you obtain your marriage license

3) How old do you need to be in order to obtain a marriage license? 18 the legal age of majority in the State of Ohio is 18

8) Are you open on Saturday? No, the Court House is closed on weekends and all legal holidays

9) Do I need to make an appointment? No, appointments can not be made to obtain your marriage license, we operate on a first come first serve basis

10) What do you mean by name change papers? You need to submit any and all documents which show that you have gone through a legal name change or have had your name restored to a prior name
