I Thought they had a finger or two in it as well. You don't freak out about your kid who is grown and on their own and in a good neighborhood when it's early in the evening and they aren't answering phone calls or texts. You freak out when it's 2 am and you know they were with friends or at a house party drinking etc. And you want to be sure they got home safely or to see if they need a sober ride.
Big John and Maytee never have taken responsibility for their actions. They were obviously raised on a climate or culture of blame...then passed that along to their son. It doesn't seem that anything, no matter how small or big, is ever their fault. No accountability...backed up by little to no consequences for their behaviors...until johnny was killed. No one would ever want to look in that mirror and see the truth of what they have to cop to. At the least, they raised a irresponsible, entitled thug who got murdered in the most horrific of ways. At best, they completely fucked their own kid over, set him up, had knowledge of the set up or gave the right person info to get back at the Straubs for giving their son a chance to change his life. They still hate them for that. They hate them for living a Life they don't understand but are jealous of because they don't have it..., and it looks like a pretty good life from the view in the ghetto/slums. People hate what they don't understand. People fear what they don't understand.
