It's pretty common for such a motion to be filed. If the defendants are tried together and the jury thinks that John is guilty, for example, it makes it harder for a co-defendant like Maytee not to be viewed as guilty by association.
Anyway, will be interesting to see how the judge rules on the motion to suppress evidence and the motion to sever. The judge gave the prosecution one week to file opposition to a severance request.
