Question : if this case is considered a cold case , or not solved does it remain open in the system ? The DNA that were recovered from the scene is there any chance that if one day someone gets their DNA taken and its scanned will it ping to the murder case ??

I'm not sure how cold cases are handled but I have read on more than one occasion of cold cases being reopened so given the phrasing of that it makes me think some do get closed.

Regarding the DNA, I absolutely think that one day there could be a specific hit. We sometimes hear of that happening in old cases and I think there may even be cases of exactly that in the Crime Forum here in Mock.
