U.S. Marshals capture Toledoan wanted for murder

Quintin Helm, who evaded police for five months, was arrested today by the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, authorities say.

Helm, 21, of 635 E. Hudson St., was wanted on one count of murder for the shooting death of Tyrone Patterson, Jr., on Nov. 30. He was taken into custody by authorities behind the Imagination Station in downtown Toledo.

Patterson, 23, was shot "during the commission of an aggravated robbery," according to documents filed in Toledo Municipal Court.

Patterson was shot just after midnight at East Delaware Avenue and Walnut Street — once in the hand and once in the chest, according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office — on Nov. 30.

Authorities said they received a tip that Helm was crossing the Martin Luther King Bridge and, when a police car driving over the bridge toward Helm caused him to run down a set of stairs leading behind the Imagination Station. U.S. Marshals, in an unmarked vehicle, had already driven down to the area near the edge of the Maumee River where Helm was headed. The marshals hid from Helm's view behind telephone poles, which allowed them to arrest the suspect, authorities said.

"He ran right into us," said Deputy Marshal Rodney Hartzell.
