Psychiatric patients have longer length of stays than medical-surgical patients and WN is getting close to two weeks, so........... I tried to find average length of stay of schizophrenics on the internet, but I can't find a specific LOS listed. I did find a 15 day length of stay listed for schizophrenics (in only one study though) if it was their first admission.
If he also has a co-morbid condition (substance abuse-frequently alcohol) he may be in the psychiatric hospital much longer than 15 days. (He can't be taken into custody (if guilty) until he is discharged.)
