It's weird to me, too.
Sure, she's a whack job and her intention was to fuck over her estranged husband (killing others wasn't her primary goal, just a means to an end).
But, really, why should that matter? If the Ricin hadn't been detected, any number of people could have died, including those to whom she addressed the letters. They wouldn't be any less dead simply because they weren't her primary targets.
Then again, I still think it's weird that Hinckley gets to go home and visit with his parents. If some of his psychiatrists have their way, he may be released from institutionalization altogether soon. I know he was found not guilty of attempting to assassinate Ronald Reagan (to impress Jodie Foster), by reasons of insanity, but don't think he should ever be released from psychiatric incarceration and back into society.
Sometimes decisions within the justice system make little sense to me.
