Saying that people are responsible for their own dignity is great, true, and irrelevant. You're a black man on the Supreme Court saying "Slaves still had dignity." Yep, they did. And you personally benefited tremendously from the end of slavery... because it was the right thing. Gay people not having the right to marry doesn't take away their dignity, but they'll benefit from having that right. If you think it's fair to deny them that right because they'll still have dignity, then I guess that whole Civil Rights movement wasn't worth all the hooplah. But who knows, maybe he'd still be a Supreme Court Justice if he was born a slave. Right?
