The hospitalized mother of a 6-year-old girl gunned down in the Colorado movie theater massacre finally learned this morning that her daughter was killed, a relative told the Herald, news that left the aspiring nurse “absolutely devastated” as she recovers from her own injuries.
“She took it very badly,” Jean Moser said of her granddaughter, Ashley, who she said remains at Aurora Medical Center with a bullet in her neck and at least one bullet wound in her abdomen. “I know she was shocked.”
Ashley Moser, 25, and her 6-year-old daughter, Veronica, were at Aurora’s Century Theatre multiplex Friday for the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” when, police said, 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes opened fire on the crowd, killing 12 and injuring 58 more.
Jean Moser confirmed her great-granddaughter, Veronica, was among the victims, saying the little girl had finished kindergarten and was excited to start taking swimming lessons this summer.
“She was very delightful, lively little girl,” Jean Moser told the Herald by telephone from her home in Denver. “She was very engaging. It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy.”
Jean Moser said her granddaughter Ashley had been upgraded from critical condition, and has started communicating with family. Ashley was unaware her baby girl had been killed until family members at the hospital told her this morning, Jean Moser said.
