Actually, in reading Duchess' post in another thread about the history of gun legislation, after Cho shot up Virginia Tech, there was supposed to be greater mental health screening (2008 law) that occurred before a gun purchase could be finalized. Apparently, if someone had any sort of mental health consultation, their name was supposed to be put on a National Registry, which would then be cross-referenced before the sale of a firearm.

If this is true (and what I'm advocating), people are slipping through the cracks. Sounds like the Aurora shooter (as well as Loughner) had mental issues that people knew of, yet somehow these guys legally purchased guns.

Who's accountable if this is indeed true?
