Dahmer escapee Tracy Edwards who told police and got Dahmer caught...

Tracy Edwards sentenced to 18 months in prison for homicide

Tracy Edwards, the man who led the Milwaukee police in the arrest of a serial killer and rapist, Jeffery Dahmer, in 1991, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for providing assistance in drowning a man into the river.

Edwards was taken into custody after the incident that took place last July. The other defendant, Timothy Carr, 44, was sentence to 4 years in prison on Friday. The man that drowned was Jimmy Jordans, 43, and he had apparently broken into an argument with the other two as the three of them stood over the Milwaukee river bridge. Besides spending 18 months behind the bar, Edwards will spend two years under strict police supervision after he leaves the prison.

Paul Ksicinski, Edwards’ attorney, said Dahmer’s encounter had a profound effect on his client, who was already struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Now the death of Jimmy Jordans and the regret Edwards is feeling over is just mounting up his pains.

"He's going to have another ghost to haunt him all his life," Paul Ksicinski told the judge Monday. He said Carr didn’t know how to swim, but still went into the water after Jordan and had to be saved. Whether that was an attempt to save Jordan or to kill himself is not known. But since it cannot be proved if Edwards had helped in lifting Jordon from the bridge, he will be facing reduced first-degree charges for recklessly endangering safety, which he had previously pleaded not guilty of.

Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet rejected the plea of Edwards’ attorney to give him probation upon lying to the police about the incident. She said the at the age of 52, Edwards should have known what to do under such circumstances and that he deserved at least some prison time for aiding Carr and lying.

Although Edwards was given credit for the time he spent in the prison after his arrest - which total to 191 days -, about the horrific ordeal he went through with Dahmer and the post-traumatic stress he had been experiencing ever since, she said, "In your efforts to drown your sorrows, you have made other people victims."

Edwards apologized and said, "I should have done more that day."

He and Carr must pay a sum of $2,500 combined to compensate Jordan’s family for their loss.

The man who led police to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer two decades ago was sentenced Monday to a year and a half behind bars for his role in the drowning death of a homeless man.

Tracy Edwards’ attorney argued that the Dahmer encounter had a profound impact on his client, who has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, and that the remorse he felt over the death last summer of Johnny Jordan just added to his pain.

“He’s going to have another ghost to haunt him all his life,” lawyer Paul Ksicinski told the judge Monday.

A criminal complaint accuses Edwards and Timothy Carr of throwing Jordan into a river from a downtown Milwaukee bridge during an argument July 26. Jordan drowned.

Edwards, 52, pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of aiding a felon in a plea agreement in Milwaukee County. He originally pleaded not guilty to first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

All three men were homeless when Jordan died.

Ksicinski said Jordan and Carr had a volatile relationship, and that Carr — who couldn’t swim well — went into the water after Jordan and had to be saved. He said he didn’t know why Carr went in, possibly to save Jordan or kill himself.

On Monday, Assistant District Attorney Mark Williams told Judge Rebecca Dallet that Carr had admitted his role in the death but that he would have had problems establishing that Edwards was involved in helping to lift Jordan off the bridge.

That’s why they went with the reduced charge, which he can prove because Edwards admitted he initially lied to police in an effort to protect Carr.

Williams and Ksicinski asked Dallet to sentence Edwards to probation.

Edwards was 32 when he met Dahmer at a downtown Milwaukee mall. He went to Dahmer’s apartment, where they drank and watched a movie before the serial killer threatened Edwards with a knife in 1991. Edwards testified at Dahmer’s 1992 trial that he planned his escape after Dahmer clamped a handcuff on his wrist, put a knife to his groin and listened for his heartbeat.

“At one point, he said he was going to eat my heart,” Edwards said. “For some reason, God told me not to let this guy handcuff me. He laid across me and put his head across my chest and was listening to my heart.”

Edwards, a handcuff dangling from his wrist, said he hit Dahmer and was able to get away and flag down police.

Dahmer, who admitted killing 17 young men and boys, was serving life prison sentences when he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate in 1994.

Edwards has been convicted of at least three drug-related charges since 1997 and Ksicinski said he likely has post-traumatic stress disorder because of his experience with Dahmer. He said Edwards essentially “shorted out” that day on the bridge.

Dallet acknowledged Edwards’ had been through a horrific ordeal with Dahmer, but that at his age he should nonetheless have known better.

“In your efforts to drown your sorrows, you have made other people victims,” she said.

Edwards apologized and said, “I should have done more that day.”

Dallet gave Edwards to the maximum possible sentence — one and a half years in prison — along with two years of extended supervision. She also ordered Edwards to pay $2,520 to Jordan’s mother for funeral expenses, and to get alcohol and drug assessment and treatment. He received credit for 191 days already spent in jail.

Carr pleaded guilty to first-degree recklessly endangering safety and was sentenced Friday to four years in prison.

RE: Dahmer escapee Tracy Edwards who told police and got Dahmer caught...

Tracy Edwards—the man who escaped Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment and led to the end of the killer’s murder spree—was arrested, just days after the anniversary of his escape, accused of killing a fellow homeless man.

The 52-year-old allegedly pushed a man, Johnny Jordan, off a Milwaukee bridge. Edwards pleaded not guilty to initial charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Edwards’ charges were upgraded to reckless homicide. Timothy Carr, who was also spotted at the scene, pleaded guilty to the initial charges. A witness told police he or she saw both men push the victim into the water.

If convicted, Edwards faces 60-years in prison, and could serve time at the Columbia Correctional Institute—the same place Jeffrey Dahmer served time before he was killed in 1994.

Dahmer survivor sentenced in drowning death

MILWAUKEE (AP) - The man who led Milwaukee police to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer two decades ago has been sentenced to a year and a half behind bars for his role in a drowning death.

Tracy Edwards pleaded guilty to aiding a felon in a plea agreement in Milwaukee County. Prosecutors say Edwards and Timothy Carr threw Johnny Jordan into a river from a Milwaukee bridge during an argument. Jordan drowned.

The district and defense attorneys asked Judge Rebecca Dallet to sentence Edwards to probation for lying to police. But Dallet told Edwards that at age 52 he should have known better.

In 1991, Edwards escaped from Dahmer’s Milwaukee apartment where the serial killer handcuffed and threatened him with a knife. Edwards testified against Dahmer, who admitted killing 17 young men and boys.

Tracy Edwards, the man who led Milwaukee police to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer 20 years ago, made his first court appearance related to the murder of a homeless man.

Tracy Edwards and another man are charged with recklessly endangering safety in the death of Johnny Jordan, who drowned after being thrown off a downtown Milwaukee bridge. Edwards and co-defendant (Timothy Carr) are accused of arguing with Jordan and throwing him off the bridge Tuesday.

Edwards’ attorney asked the court commissioner to allow Edwards to participate by phone Saturday. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the request was denied, and the commissioner set bail at $10,000 and scheduled an Aug. 8 preliminary hearing.

Tracy, now 52, is known for his July 1991 escape from Dahmer’s apartment, which in turn allowed the police to close in on Dahmer.

Yea - needs something tho. Maybe they searched his notty dreds for stems or something.

It seems strange that this guy led cops to Dahmer and then is later involved in a alleged murder. I guess it can be chalked up to PTSD but, it seems fishy.

Kind of like Cary Steiner becoming the Yosemite Killer years after his brother was kidnapped and then found after years of confinement by a pedophile. Theories are that because of the attention of his brother's case, he became fixated on death.

OT - I had a wicked crush on Corin Nemec who played Steven Steiner in the made for TV movie "I Know My First Name is Steven".

Cary Steiner reminds me a bit of Bundy as he was handsome and pretty personable and could attract women - but, underneath lay some scary stuff.
