Italian senator Roberto Calderoli of the right wing Northern League party compared Italys first black government minister to an “orangutan” in a speech at the weekend.

Cecile Kyenge, an eye surgeon who was born in the democratic republic of Congo, became the minister of immigration in April and Calderolis comments are the latest in a series of slurs and insults she has been on the receiving end of especially online.

Calderoli also said she would “encourage illegal immigrants” and should “work in her own country” even though she is an Italian citizen fluent in Italian.

What a tosspot! I mean comparing black people to primates is offensive enough but she looks fuck all like an orangutan!

Looks like Calderoli has got previous form.

In 2006 he went on live TV wearing a T-shirt covered in cartoons of the prophet Mohammed. This act sparked riots outside the Italian consulate in Libya where people were killed and injured.

In the world cup in 2006 when Italy beat France he said the opposing team lost because they were made up of “niggers, muslims and communists”.

When it was announced a new mosque was being built in Bologna in 2010 he said he would stage a “pig day protest” and have the walls of the mosque smeared in pigs blood.
