Immigration

I would not have a problem with giving an illegal immigrant amnesty as long as they had a job and was not on the welfare dole. Not so much with the ones in hiding. But once something like that happened I bet there would still be a ton of them laying back and sucking the government tit. Those should be kicked the fuck out.

Need to hire a few new workers, huh?

Fuck the bastards who sneaked in and don't want to go home.

We need to be more like Australia.

If they are picking fruit and vegetables they should be paying taxes and S.S. also.

*GASP* You mean some might not be paying taxes while simultaneously demanding citizenship?

We don't owe those people anything. If they are here because they truly want a better way of life then they need to work for their American dream like everyone else here who wants it, otherwise they need to get da hell out.

There is a big Mexican community here, they work on the horse farms, tree farms & the plantations where they harvest vegetables for companies like Green Giant, from what I've heard they are great workers. I see them at the market and their children are always better behaved than most of the blacks and many of the whites & I don't see their names filling the police blotter like I do others of a different color.

If they're employed and get integrated into the tax system, no problem with amnesty here either.

New immigrants coming in legally, welcome.

But, if we're gonna ship tit suckers out we need to be doing it on a larger scale than tit suckers sidling in. Imo, we need to be more aggressive about the influx to really reduce the hit to the economy and return to the melting pot concept whereby immigration is beneficial to both the immigrants, and to the permanent residents and citizens that are already here.

Like Tiki mentioned, Australia's cracking down hard on new refugees and making it very profitable for people to drop the dime on people smugglers. I know the network of traffickers here is very dispersed and disjointed, but I'd like to see more focus on infiltrating and busting up those smugglers than on the war on drugs.

We want the ones with a good work ethic and some pride not criminals and drug dealers. There has to be something like a rat out program that people can make money on. 100.00 is cheap compared to the cost of an illegal on welfare.

I agree with all here. A lady I used to work with had a son that was a landscaper. Every Spring the "amigos" would come and be houses together and work for the landscaper. I'm pretty sure they were illegal. They left in the fall. They supported their families with the money they made here. Part of me didn't mind because they worked their asses off. On the other hand they took jobs away from citizens. I'm pretty sure not to many college or high school kids would work as hard 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

Now . . . can anyone enlighten the rest of the class where they obtained the documents to obtain employment and pay said taxes?

Not I.

I am assuming that they are not currently paying taxes. One of the requirements for amnesty should be that they get integrated into the tax system, imo.

Of course, that means that their currently illegal employers would also have to go legit and there are employer taxes that would have to be paid too. It could make using immigrants a much less profitable (or even viable) option for these employers as the costs of labor increases to minimum wage and the tax burden is placed upon them too.

Would that help or hurt the economy overall? I honestly don't know. I know the struggles of operating with a very slim profit margin; I don't know how many employers of illegals could afford to go legit and stay in biz.

Complex issue. My agreement with amnesty and integration into the tax system is conceptual only. I'd hope that the amnesty policy makers are all over the analysis and details.
