I agree. The 'blessed be' thing is irritating. Mostly because it's like they feel they MUST put it there. The same way scientologists feel they have to say ARC! (It stands for 'Affinity - Reality - Communication' and is supposed to be the 'formula' which leads to 'understanding'), or the way many fanatics think they have to say 'God Bless!' every time they say something.

I spent a little time at a wiccan commune in Indiana (called Lothlorien - not sure if it still exists)*. Some of them were very cool people, but I find that most people who really are intelligent, 'outgrow' wicca eventually.

As much as I enjoyed LOTR, you gotta question naming an organization after one of the Elf communities. ::nuts::
Agreed. Some people are really into that stuff.

Mock has "N'Shit".

It all means the same thing at the end of the day.

The majority reject all religion and also reject all belief in the paranormal and the supernatural, their "rituals" are just that, rituals. Lavey said that man had a natural need to perform rituals but that the rituals themselves didn't have to mean anything.

I've never met any that I know of... plenty of wiccan folk. I knew some 'Golden Dawn' people once, they were weirdos, and people into Kabbalah.

Apparently, LaVey was pretty serious about his rituals at the time. I never could get into anything ritualistic.

The famous satanic black mass is just a lampoon of a catholic mass.
There are three basic types of ritual in Laveyan satanism, benevolence, lust and destruction. Benevolence is a ritual designed to bring good luck and good fortune to yourself or a loved one, lust is designed to capture the attention of someone you are sexually attracted to, and destruction is designed to bring about the downfall of your enemies.
In the follow up to the satanic bible, the satanic rituals other more general rituals are listed including wedding and funeral ceremonies.
Robes are worn, candles are lit, incantations are recited but they are just a means to an end, no Laveyan satanists believe in or worship the devil, or demons, or gods, or anything else.

The current high priest Peter Gilmore sums it up best:-

Satanism begins with atheism. we begin with the universe and say, "its indifferent, there's no god, there's no devil".

This wasn't a 'black mass' thing they were doing. I would question whether he (my ex) was even being truthful about it or not, but I've heard the story backed up from several independent people who were involved. This was an actual summoning circle and pentagram. It may have been before the whole 'church' thing really got started, I don't know. I could ask what year it was for certain... but I believe it was around '67.

Anyway, it's just a dumb story. Smiley_emoticons_wink

Well the church was more or less up and running from October 1966, the satanic calender states 1966 is "year one" Anno Satanus.
I know that Lavey was involved with organising and running other occult study groups before that though.
