Can Pizza be Racist?
#1
This story seems rather asinine!

It takes a lot for New Yorkers to get mad at any establishment that creates their cities most beloved dish: Pizza.

But NYC residents are furious with a local pizza joint for promoting a racist pie.
How on Earth can pizza be racist?

Pizza by Certé recently started advertising a picnic themed pizza with ingredients like fried chicken, watermelon and sunflower seeds.

And here is what they called it the pic-a-nika. The pic-a-nika.
That's racist? C'mon!

Advocacy group Millions March NYC protested the establishment and tried to get it shut down.

Pizza by Certe said, they were trying to make a play on the word picnic by pronouncing it in an Italian accent.

When you say it, see the spelling and add things like fried chicken and watermelon ... did no one say 'hey, this might incense some people?'

After some back and forth on social media the restaurant ultimately removed the item!

Pussy's! Unbelievable, they caved!!!

Yeah but if he was eating a slice of Pizza with fried chicken, watermelon and sunflower seeds, it might be a different story! hah

Had they named it The Picnic pizza no one would have said anything. But to put fried chicken and watermelon on a pizza and then call it The Pic-a-nika on top of it, that's just asking for trouble. They may as well have named it the Cotton Pickin Nigger pizza.

Depends on how you interpret it I guess. At first glance I assumed it was to illustrate an Italian accent and fried chicken and watermelon are common picnic foods.

Would an Italian person really pronounce picnic as pic-a-nika? It sounds more in my head like peek-a-nik.

So this guy and Yvonne Craig the original Batgirl died. If six more former Batman actors croak they'll be dead and dead and dead and dead and dead and dead and dead and dead and BATMAN!
