Rabbit Proof Fence
#1
Has anyone seen the movie Rabbit Proof Fence?

We watched it last night and man, it was pretty heavy.

It was about the way the Aboriginal people of Australia were brutalized and enslaved, genetically 'reformed' and more by the settlers of the continent. This genetic engineering didn't end until 1970.

Half-castes were taken from their mothers in the hopes of genetically breeding the black out of them. If it couldn't be done, the 'leftovers' were put into slavery / servitude, never seeing their families again.

This is the story of three girls who were 'half castes' and taken from their home for such a program. They escaped and traveled 9 weeks through the rough Australian desert and did make it home. The ending wasn't as happy as it seems by my description and I don't want to spoil it if anyone wants to see the movie.

If you want it spoiled say so. I didn't expect such a heart breaking movie.

Was this program televised or is it from a rental ?...It sounds compelling, enough so that I'd sit & watch.

Yah it put a great perspective on Americans and slavery too.

The whole world thinks we invented it, we propagated it and were completely proud of it where in fact it was the Dutch who started the whole slave trade (or was at least one of the biggest instigators of it), England funded it and if it weren't for wanting to keep the southern states when we broke from England, slavery in this country would have been abolished with our founding. Yet we still had the shortest history of slavery in the entire world and everyone bashes us as if we were the only country that did such a horrible thing.

We never tried to 'breed the black' out of any race. We never tried to genetically reengineer any race.

Sadly we still are shitting all over our native peoples. Hopefully one day that can be fixed but I don't expect to see that in my lifetime.

I rented the movie. I belong to Netflix, Duchess. Great thing as I get three movies at a time sent to the house to watch and send them back on their dime when I'm through.

I've a list of hundreds of movies in my queue and they just come in threes as I send them back. Smiley_emoticons_smile

I related this movie more to our country's history with Native Americans, actually. Forced relocation, attempts to exterminate them like vermin, attempts to abolish their history and languages...

I related it to both. I think it was the 'breed the black out of them' and the slavery / servitude that got me leaning more toward our slave history when watching.

Either way, Indians / Blacks.... it's appalling.

Nice try bitch trying to shift the blame for the slave trade onto Great Britain and Holland, trying to make out that Amrerica was forced to do it, what a load of shit.
In the US right Up until the 1960's black people were treated like sub-human scum who had seperate bathrooms etc, we have NEVER had apartheid like this in the UK, NEVER.
Also your wholesale genocide of the native American indians is a blight on your countries history worse than anything Great Britain has done.

Now get your hood on and shut the fuck up you hick bitch,
We need to punish the French, ignore the Germans and forgive the Russians - Condoleezza Rice.

It's nice to see you still don't understand what you read.

I never said nor eluded to your description of my words.

It was a good movie, but yes it was depressing. 'True Story' if I remember correctly. It just goes to show that there is ignorance, arrogance and cruelty behind the mask of 'good intentions' everywhere.

"Good intentions"?? I saw no indication of a good intention of any sort! I was disgusted from the beginning when they were describing taking that woman's kids away!

And yes, it was a true story.

By 'good intentions', I mean the fact that these demented sods actually thought they were doing the children a 'favor' by taking them away from the 'savages' and putting them into a 'good white christian school' (*cough*work camp). As in 'the road to hell is paved with'. Many evils are perpetrated by people who deeply believe they are doing 'the right thing'.
