WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

Attracting potential members
Most web surfers like to sample a site before joining. Without a few random new members here & there, the forum may begin to stagnate because new members will only be those referred by folks already here or folks with a specific agenda.

Just to address this - when I joined, (as I've already stated elsewhere), I thought the forum WAS 'private', except for the Newbie area. I (gasp!) READ the other newbie threads to get a feel for what happened here. I saw that the newbies were generally idiots, and the 'members' were usually clever, funny and often vicious, but it essentially gave me a good feel for what the forum would be like. It was enticing enough to prompt me to apply for membership.

In my opinion, the main concern with all of that (for some of us), is when a person in Mock might LINK our Mock username to our real identifying information out in the real world.

Let's take an example.

If we had a user named Bozo and someone here posted a link to his online twaddle shop without his permission, I don't see how that could be 'harmful' to him in any way. However, if someone created a post saying (in effect) 'Bozo's real name is Harry Fishnuts and he runs Fishnuts Twaddleshop!' - yes, that COULD be damaging to him.

Imagine, for instance, that someone heard about Harry's Twaddle and decided to do an internet search for his shop. Among all of the links they see about Harry's Twaddleshop, they see an odd link saying that 'Bozo' really is Harry from Harry's Twaddleshop. Not only that, in the same post (should they care to read it), they see that Harry is being accused of engaging in oral sex with his deceased grandmother and stealing candy from children. They decide to read further and see 'Harry' posting back in a manner most foul, which shocks the potential customer and loses him business.

If, on the other hand, Harry is bold enough to post the information in the forum himself, that's his problem. Of course, if the information is posted in a PRIVATE section of the forum, Harry has nothing to fear except the intense mocking of his twaddle by other members (which is as it should be in my opinion).

That is why, in the scenario I was considering of creating an alternative site, one of my 'rules' was that anyone caught reposting anything from the forum (with the exception of the section viewable to the public) would be banned.

In addition, many forums have a condition (posted in their Terms of Use), which states that all content posted to the forum, (which is not previously copyrighted to someone else, obviously) becomes property of the forum and may not be reproduced without permission from the site.

You only know of three of the sites I own. You have no idea what else I am inovolved in online in this regard.

Oh please, your admin experience is monitoring the same 5 active bitches at most. Anyway, a question.

What the hell do you want from me!? Is there something you want me to say that may end your miserable negative existence? What should I do?
